During a special two-hour information breakfast at the Toronto Design Exchange - Trading Floor on October 7 at 8:00 a.m. EDT, we'll explore the details of the next phase in the development of the Financial Planning Practice Standards. As you probably know, the Draft Practice Standards have been published for comment on our website for the past six months. After October 7 - together with you, your clients and the businesses in which you work - we will begin our purposeful journey and take the next step toward final refinement of the Practice Standards.
If you're in the Toronto area, we hope you'll attend the presentation and question period to discover where we are now and where we are going with this very important next step in the evolution of the financial planning profession in Canada. Space is limited so let us know ASAP if you want to be there by e-mailing lptak@cfp-ca.org. Liz Ptak, our new and very capable Communications Administrator will be happy to register you for the event.
If you aren't in the area, we eagerly anticipate your virtual participation. You will be able to register for the live web cast from www.cfp-ca.org as early as three-days prior to the date. Don't worry if you can't make it or if your e-mailed question isn't answered during the live event. The web cast will be archived for you to view at your convenience. Your questions and comments can be e-mailed to us any time after the event.
However you approach it, don't miss it. There is much to be learned about how the Financial Planning Practice Standards will help you put your best foot forward, always.
FPSC will participate in three career fairs in September and CFP volunteers are needed.
On September 24, there is a career fair in Kitchener/Waterloo for Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Waterloo, University of Guelph and Conestoga College. The September 26 career fair in Halifax will represent Dalhousie University, St. Mary's University and Mount St. Vincent University and has the support of HRDC's Youth Employment Strategy. And there is a career fair on September 29 in St. John's for Memorial University.
If you would like to assist FPSC staff in touting the CFP designation for any of these career fairs, e-mail FPSC Communications with your contact information and for which show you would be willing to help. We'll get back to you in the second half of August.
This past year FPSC has arranged dozens of media interviews with CFP professionals for national and regional newspapers, radio and TV, consumer magazines, trade publications and web-based media stories.
As an ambassador of the CFP community, you too can help tell the financial planning and CFP story by registering yourself on the Ask an Expert database. When media are looking for an expert on a particular topic, they go directly to this search feature and call their choice of experts directly, or they call us and we put them in touch with one or more of you for that expert take on the topic.
When we're looking for the expert to help us pitch a story that can demonstrate the professional expertise, knowledge, skills and ethical commitment of CFP designated planners, we also start with the "Ask an Expert" list. But sometimes, like now, we go the extra mile: Calling all experts on the financial planning implications of legal marital status for same-sex couples. It's a hot news topic. Are you currently serving a clientele that includes same sex couples? Do you have insight that you would like to share with your colleagues and the public through the media? If so, please e-mail FPSC Communications.
