Planning a seminar on financial planning for the public? In an effort to promote more consumer education, we are adding a Seminar & Event Calendar to our website on which CFP Professionals and their organizations can list and promote their financial planning seminars to the public. We plan on automating the submission process so that you can submit information online. But for now, send your information to FPSC Communications. We will need to know the date, time and location of the event, what the topic is and any other relevant information including contacts and links.

Did you know?.. When browsers use major Internet search engines to help them find online information on financial planning and planners, the FPSC website comes up at the top or near the top of the list almost every time.

After months of discussing and writing and editing and designing, the financial planning activity guide for youth leaders is on the presses and soon to be delivered to the 30 Scout Shops across Canada. Once this is complete, we will make the activity guide into a PDF file and add it to our website in a newly created section called Educational Resource Centre.

Formerly the CFP Bulletin Board, FPSC's new Discussion Forums, set to launch in early June, offers a variety of forums for our web visitors. But, the CFP Licensee Forum will be password protected so that it is available to CFP professionals only. All other forums - educators, scout leaders and the general public - will be open to all who visit our site. When the forums are ready, we will make the menu name change from CFP Bulletin Board to FPSC Discussion Forums and you'll know they're up and ready to go.

Beginning in June, the licensee welcome page on our site will host a monthly poll. Similar to the poll we began running on the public welcome page in April, the licensee polls will pose questions relevant to you - CFP Professionals. Look for the poll, and have your opinion counted.

From April 2002 through March 2003 we more than doubled the exposure of CFP and FPSC in print publications. Our presence on radio and television has never been more prevalent. In the past few months alone, FPSC Vice President Professional Standards & Certification, Cary List, CFP, CA, appeared on Report on Business Television and CFP professionals Cynthia Kett, James Kraemer and Kurt Rosentreter were each interviewed about the significance of financial planning that were aired on five radio stations in three provinces. And during Investor Education Month in April, we sent out several media advisories through Canada Newswire, one of which was in the top 10 viewed media releases on the Canada Newswire website for that day. Audio streams of some interviews are in the Media Releases section of our website.

Look for CFP "Take the Next Step" ads running in various national consumer magazines. All the ads are posted on our website in Our Advertising. Here's the summer line-up:

Timely communication to an ever increasing number of CFP Professionals is no small feat. To help us get timely information to you, when you need it, we'll be sending you E-Flash. This latest communication tool will be available to you as an opt-in e-mail service apprising you of time-sensitive events and information. If you want to receive E-Flash, e-mail FPSC Communications. This online magazine, E-Blast News, will continue. However, it will now come to you at regular intervals. Look for it the last Friday of every second month. Of course you'll still receive the FPSC Bulletin, our print newsletter three times a year - Spring, Fall and Winter.

FPSC's comments on two new regulatory initiatives currently in the works are posted on our website.

In March of 2002, the CSA announced an initiative to develop uniform securities legislation for adoption across Canada. The focus of this project, referred to as the USL Project, is to achieve harmonization of legislation. It will also take the opportunity to simplify and streamline the regulatory system in areas where this complementary goal could be achieved within the project timeframe. Read about it on the OSC website and our comments on it.

The Joint Forum Practice Standards Project has been divided into four components: Practice Standards, Competency Rules, Continuing Education Requirements and Licensing Guidelines. The current phase of this project attempts to outline best practices for intermediaries in the sale of financial products and services. Read our comments to the outline.

On the heels of the tremendous success of our first Examination Item Writing Workshop in Banff, Alberta last January, FPSC will hold its second Workshop from January 4-9, 2004. We are looking for CFP professionals to volunteer their time and financial planning expertise for the Workshop. For information on how to participate, contact Paulette Anthony, Examination Development Leader at panthony@cfp-ca.org, no later than June 30.
