CFP Continuing Education requirements are based on the calendar year. With the new year about five weeks away, now is a good time to evaluate your CE to ensure you will meet the 30-hour requirement. Visit the Continuing Education section of the FPSC website for more information and possible sources of CE.

Understanding something is the key to accepting it. The consumer survey we conducted in the Spring revealed that financial planning as a service is still not entirely understood by most Canadians. But they are willing to be educated.

FPSC's Learning Centre will offer unbiased information on a variety of financial planning related topics - estate planning, tax planning, retirement planning, personal risk management, investment planning, personal finance management, general financial planning and other special financial planning related topics such as educating youth on money matters and cross-border financial issues. Have you written articles? Would you like to? Where do you send your clients for information? Let us know. Contact FPSC Communications.

In the last E-Blast, we told you we redesigned the menus to give them a more streamlined and cleaner look. We have now added a fourth section to the site. The CFP Candidates hub provides information and resources for those looking at a career in financial planning, and more specifically, those intending to pursue the CFP designation. By creating this section, we have been able to further streamline the Public and CFP Licensees sections to make finding information easier.

Tell us what you think.

Do you or your company offer financial planning related seminars to the public? Add them to our new Event and Seminar Calendar. The new calendar allows you electronically submit the information to FPSC for approval and posting. Watch also for the new Event and Seminar Calendar for industry participants soon to be posted in the CFP Licensees section of our website.

The launch of the Financial Planning Practice Standards at a event on October 7 drew media attention from both trade and consumer publications. In October, articles appeared in The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The National Post and the Winnipeg Free Press. The Boston Globe even ran a story about the Practice Standards. And there was more coverage in industry publications, Investment Executive, Advisor's Edge and advisor.ca.

To see all 12 ads that we have been running in national magazines, visit www.cfp-ca.org/licensees/licensees_ouradvertising.asp.

January 8, look in the Globe & Mail for the successful candidates ad featuring the names of those who passed the November 22, 2003 CFP Examination.

FPSC has purchased eight hours of airtime on each of three "talk" radio stations to provide opportunities for CFP professionals to educate Canadians about financial planning and to answer their personal finance questions. FPSC will be supporting the programs with radio advertisements leading up to the dates of the shows, as well as web-based and outdoor promotions, including bus posters in the three markets during the eight weeks the shows are running. Look for the full story in the next issue of FPSC Bulletin (December).

There are no conferences scheduled for December and January. The following organizations offer seminars on an ongoing basis:

Canadian Securities Institute
The Canadian Securities Institute offers single-day, weekend and weekly in-class seminars.

Institute of Canadian Bankers
The Institute of Canadian Bankers offers seminars throughout the year on a variety of topics.

We're sending out E-Blast News on the last Thursday of every second month from now on instead of the last Friday. If you get it on Thursday or Friday, there is a better chance it won't be lost in your spam that has accumulated over the weekend.

The next E-Blast News will be sent to you January 29, 2004. Have a happy holiday season.
