CFP Ambassadors continue to put their best foot forward in media interviews during October and November on a variety of topics showcasing the breadth and depth of the expertise of the CFP community of professionals. Some of the interviews have yet to appear in published articles — so let's watch for them.

Congratulations and thank you to all who help inform Canadians about financial planning through mass media.

Please continue to let us know of your participation in media interviews (outside of those we arrange) so we can acknowledge you and celebrate the success with you and your peers.

Advisor's Edge
called several CFP professionals (people that they have previously spoken to) recommendations on holiday gifts and books

The Feature Article for November is, "Year End Tax Tips for Year Long Savings" by Daniel Varanelli, CFP, CGA. "There are a number of practices that will help everyone, whether your tax situation is simple or complex."

Since we are heading into the holiday season, January's feature will be selected from articles submitted by CFP professionals over the past year. February's feature article will address RRSPs. Despite so much previously written on them, RRSPs remain a topic of great interest to most Canadians this time of year. To better the chances of your article being picked, come up with a fresh and timely approach. The due date for February Feature Article submissions is January 16. Submit articles to Blake Glendenning at bglendenning@cfp-ca.org.

Read the Feature Article submission guidelines to better your chances of being selected.

Learning Centre is an online resource for consumers. Organized by topic, it contains articles, a digest of books and links. It's a great place to direct your clients.

Want to be part of the Feature Article Editorial Committee? If you think you might be interested and would like more information, contact Blake Glendenning at bglendenning@cfp-ca.org.

CFP professionals across the country are discovering that a good article is a good article. It doesn't matter who wrote it. We frequently get requests from CFP professionals to reprint articles written by other CFP professionals and published on FPSC's online Learning Centre. Why re-invent the wheel? If your colleagues have already written any articles that might benefit your clients, contact FPSC Communications to request a Permission to Reprint form so you can personally distribute them in print. Or direct your clients to our website to read the article online.

Getting them right is taking longer than we thought it would. But we think you'll find that what we've come up with has been worth the wait. The new series of financial planning brochures that will be available in January hit the mark in delivering persuasive messages about the importance of financial planning, the CFP and FPSC. Watch for a preview of the new brochures in the January FPSC Bulletin.

In trying to keep abreast of what is going on in financial planning worldwide, we came across an article in the 4E Journal, a publication of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia. Read the article entitled, "When it is Critical to Walk the Talk" as it brings up some good points about being a CFP professional.

What does being a professional mean to you? Share your insight on our online Discussion Forums. We have set up a thread called 'Sharing Ideas on being a Professional' — it's up to you to start talking with each other about this timely topic.

Several of FPSC's education program providers offer co-op programs for their financial planning students. These schools are always looking for employer partners to help their students obtain the required work experience. Watch for the winter edition of FPSC Bulletin, celebrating 10 years of FPSC and CFP. Be sure to look for it in your mailbox around the middle of January.

The CFP licensing period is from April 1st to March 31st and you must renew annually. Please watch for your annual renewal forms that will be mailed out by FPSC in early February. We'll let you know by e-mail in early February when to expect them. For current FPSC Licensing Policies, please visit our website at http://www.cfp-ca.org/licensees/licensees_licensingpolicies.asp.

It is very important that we have your current address before the renewals are mailed out. Please update your personal profile by using FPSC's online Services at https://www.fpsconlineservices-ca.org/login.asp. It is the responsibility of all CFP professionals to ensure their personal information is accurate and up-to-date.

There's no such thing as FPSC pre-approved CE programs/courses. While there are many good educational programs available to you that will likely help you meet your CE requirements, FPSC does not pre-approve any of them. Read your CE Requirements to make sure you are making choices that will help you meet FPSC's requirements.

Add your opinion to our online polls. The November-December CFP professional poll asks, "Energy costs are rising. Interest rates are going up. How do you think this will affect your clients' ability to manage their debt and cash flow? Visit the CFP professional homepage to tell us what you think.

The poll on the Public homepage asks, "Energy costs are rising. Interest rates are going up. How much of an impact do you think these increasing costs will have on your financial situation?" Most respondents so far have indicated that they think it will have some effect. Encourage your clients to offer up their opinion by participating in this poll.

Jobsite, FPSC's free online listing of financial planning-related jobs continues to reach new heights. Currently, there are 125 positions listed from coast to coast to coast. And recently someone from BMO (posting a job on our site for the first time) told us she was referred by a colleague at Nesbitt Burns who told her that our site had the best response rate by qualified job seekers. He mentioned the response rate is better than Monster.ca or Workopolis.com. That's music to our ears!

We list third party events on the FPSC website that may satisfy some of your Continuing Education requirements. The following links take you to the December and January calendars. The Event and Seminar Calendar is updated regularly so check back often. And if you know of events not listed that may be of interest to your colleagues, e-mail us at communications@cfp-ca.org.
