John De Goey CFP, says in his recently published book, The Professional Financial Advisor II, "There are financial service professionals out there that simply don't want to have a conversation with their clients about how they're getting paid, how much they're getting paid, and how much their advice is worth." You can access the forum from a special link on the CFP Professionals' home pagee on Tuesday October 10.

John will also be a guest on Michael Landsberg's "Off The Record" on TSN on Tuesday, October 17th at 6:00 PM.

FPSC recognizes that individual licensees may choose to practice under a different name than the one they have provided for their CFP certificate. To ensure that Canadian consumers can easily confirm your CFP licence status, we ask that all planners provide FPSC with the name they use on their business material. If you use a different name on your business card than what is on your CFP certificate or licence, please contact licensing@cfp-ca.org.

Hiring a Co-op student is an effective way to deal with short-term staffing needs. This year, Toronto's Seneca College has financial planning students with skills that may be put to good use in your practice. They are preparing to write their IFIC licence, they have used industry software to prepare a financial plan as part of a class assignment, and most are enrolled in the Canadian Securities Course.

If you would like more information, contact Lynda.Trude@senecac.on.ca.

The U.S. Financial Planning Association (FPA) invites all Canadian CFP professionals to attend FPA Nashville 2006 at the FPA member rate. From October 21-24, the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center will host industry professionals dedicated to improving their skills and enhancing their business — financial planning.

To take advantage of this promotion, visit www.FPAAnnualConvention.org and enter INTL01 in the member ID field of the registration page.

Eighty-eight per cent (88%) of the 5,000 respondents to a Canadian Securities Administrators survey believe having a financial plan is important, but over half (58%) don't have one. This is just one of many interesting points revealed in the recently released survey of Canadians' investor knowledge and skills, their understanding of and experience with fraud, and their awareness of securities regulators and expectations of them.

To read the complete survey results, visit the CSA website at www.csa-acvm.ca/pdfs/CSA_Investor_Index_October_3.pdf.
