Congratulations and thank you to all who helped spread the word and educated Canadians on the many facets of financial planning.

Please continue to let us know of your participation in media interviews (outside of those we arrange) so we can acknowledge you and celebrate the success with you and your peers.

The Feature Article for October is, "Good Debt, Bad Debt, and How to Tell the Difference" by Janet Herrick, CFP. "Good debt pays off by increasing wealth while bad debt carries the cost of reducing wealth." This article will be live on the website on October 1.

For November, the Feature Article topic is "Alternative Investment Products." While most consumers are familiar with stocks and mutual funds and even labour sponsored funds, there are new products like income trusts and exchange traded funds that many don't understand. We are looking for an article that compares and contrasts all the different products and helps the consumer better understand them. For December, the topic is "Year-end Tax Tips." The due date for the November Feature Article submission is October 15 and for the December Feature, November 15.

Read the Feature Article submission guidelines to better your chances of being selected.

Learning Centre is an online resource for consumers. Organized by topic, it contains articles, a digest of books and links. It's a great place to direct your clients.

The Council for Investor Education is a forum of not-for-profit organizations and regulators (including FPSC) interested in empowering Canadians with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions. Each year, the Council rallies around Investor Education Month, promoting consumer education and providing a variety of events. FPSC hosts an Event Calendar where all members of the Council list their upcoming events.

Help FPSC to spread the word about your great career - financial planning. October 30 - November 5 is Canada Career Week, so why not volunteer to speak at your local school about your CFP credential and the benefits of being a financial planner? FPSC will support your initiative by providing a PowerPoint presentation, brochures, posters and poetry magnets for your school visit. To request materials, contact communications@cfp-ca.org. Please remember to include the school's name, mailing address, number of students and the date of your visit.

The CFP licensing period is from April 1st to March 31st and you must renew annually. For current FPSC Licensing Policies, please visit our website at www.cfp-ca.org/licensees/licensees_licensingpolicies.asp.
