Our last E-Blast News met with widespread approval
and led to increased traffic on our website. Unfortunately,
a number of people received multiple copies, and for that
we apologize. We have talked to our database consultant and
to our IT consultant and have been unable to detect the problem.
Therefore, if you receive this more than once, please accept
our apology.
Visa and MasterCard will be accepted for payment of 2002 licence
renewal. Look for our online renewal option, available on
our website in February 2002.
Do you have any colleagues preparing to write the CFP Examination
next year? If so, please tell them the only way they can register
to write the CFP Exam is through FPSC. Even if their employer
is footing the bill, the individual (not the employer) is
responsible for completing the application and sending to
our office by close of registration. Applications will be
available on our website in January and registration closes
one month prior to the date of the exam.
The FPSC website is being redesigned to look like this e-mail.
A website is a dynamic thing and over time, can become cluttered
as information is added. The banner of this e-mail reflects
the look of the new site. Also, based on input from browsers,
we are revamping the Find
a Planner and Find
an Expert search functions.
To accommodate the changes, we have to re-build the databases
and will be asking you to re-submit your profile very soon.
We'll let you know where, when and how in a separate e-mail.
Look for it before you take your holidays.
As you fill out your profile for the Find
an Expert database, consider the areas of specialty listed
and see if there are topics missing. We were recently asked
if we had planners who worked within the arts and entertainment
industry on such things as tax implications of working in
both countries. Seems to be a niche within a niche. Are there
others? E-mail Blake
Glendenning with your suggestions.
Contents of the Financial
Planning Association's (FPA) September conference, cancelled
due to the terrorist attacks, are available on their website.
Two new Life Event bundles from the Ontario Ministry of Consumer
and Business Services are available on the MCBS Online Services
Gateway. The bundles are What to Do When Someone Dies and
Getting Ready to Retire, joining Getting Married and Lost
Wallet, which were launched in May, 2001. They can all be
found at:
FPSC "Take the Next Step" ads are memorable according
to a Daniel Starch & Co. test, the industry standard in
print awareness measurement. Our ad in the May issue of Report
on Business Magazine was "Starched" and scored very
high in all categories including ad recall and amount read.
French versions of our Take
the Next Step , Financial
Planning Step by Step and Career
Planning brochures, will be available to you on our web
site soon. You will be able to take the files to your printing
company to print the brochures. However, if demand warrants
a large enough print run to reduce individual's costs, we
will consider producing the brochures and making hard copies
available. E-mail Blake
Glendenning with the quantities you would order on a cost
recovery basis.
FPSC will once again be participating in the Financial
Forum - the financial show for consumers. Due to a lack
of interest, the shows in Ottawa and Calgary have been cancelled.
The Toronto Financial Forum will be held January 24-27 and
the Vancouver Financial Forum will be held on February 15-17.
If you would like to help staff the booth, contact
Hilton. Also, there are special
programs just for advisors.
Have you or a colleague written a book? If so, we would like
to add it to our Authors'
Page. There are currently 17 books on that page written
or co-written by CFP professionals. And we are always looking
for content providers for our website. If you have written
articles on financial planning, we'd like to hear from you.
We are also looking for timely financial planning tips that
we would pitch to media representatives. They are always looking
for story ideas. Contact Blake
Glendenning with your books, articles or tips.
The first software
review by Kurt Rosentreter, CFP is now on our website.
As mentioned in the last issue of CFP Report, Kurt will be
conducting quarterly in-depth analyses of the various financial
planning software available in Canada.
Have you or you colleagues recommended a book to clients?
IE:Money magazine is looking for financial planners "who
might share their ideas of a good book or poem or piece of
general reading that might set their clients to thinking appropriately
about financial planning." The publication is looking
for recommendations of non-financial reading. Contact Blake
Glendenning if you have something to offer.
Have you visited our Job
Site page recently? Since advertising it as a free service
in our last E-Blast News, there has been a significant increase
in the number of job listings. There are currently 24 positions
listed. Don't forget, you can also post your resumé.
Looking for CE credits? Or do you want to enhance your knowledge?
Our Continuing
Education/Seminars page offers a variety of education providers
and seminars. If you know of a seminar not listed, let us
know and we will add it.
