The Investment Dealers Association (IDA) is proposing
rule changes that would expand proficiency exemptions. As
many of you already know, employees of IDA registered firms
are required to complete the Professional Financial Planning
Course through the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) within
30 months of being hired. The proposed change would allow
the Certified Financial Planner designation conferred by Financial
Planners Standards Council to be recognized as an alternative
to the completion of the Professional Financial Planning Course.
To be eligible for this recognition, individuals must have
successfully written the CFP Examination and continue to hold
the CFP designation in good standing. We will keep you posted
on this story as it develops.
FPSC has upgraded its database to a more efficient
system. Our internal database of CFP professionals was separate
from the website databases for Find
a Planner and Find
an Expert. Now there is only one database. Beginning today,
when you go to Submit/Modify
Online Profile in the Resources
section of the CFP professionals
hub of our website, you will be re-directed to FPSC
Online Services. If you are modifying an existing profile,
the username and password you had used for the online database
are no longer valid. Now, your licence number becomes your
User ID and your password
initially is your date of birth. Once you enter, you can change
your password by clicking on View/Update
Login Profile. To make changes or add your professional
profile, click on View/Update Professional
Profile. And to make changes to your contact information,
click on View/Update Demographic
Profile.
We're putting out a call for qualified CFP professionals
to serve as members of Hearing Panels as prescribed by FPSC's
Disciplinary
Rules & Procedures.
Hearing Panels are responsible for reviewing
charges prepared by FPSC's Director - Ethics, Legal & Regulatory
Affairs against CFP professionals that have allegedly breached
FPSC's Code
of Ethics, or in the case of CFP Examination candidates,
that have allegedly engaged in misconduct during the CFP Examination
process.
Hearing Panel volunteers should have an understanding
of FPSC's Code of Ethics. In addition, volunteers must complete
a detailed Conflict of Interest Questionnaire and sign a Confidentiality
Statement prior to service and be prepared to discuss issues
and make informed decisions at hearings.
Those interested in this opportunity should send
an updated resume and cover letter to Heather Terrence at
hterrence@cfp-ca.org.
Please note that FPSC requires national volunteer
representation, as hearings will be held across Canada.
For more information, please call Heather Terrence
at 416-593-8587 x231 (toll-free 1-800-305-9886 x231) or by
e-mail at hterrence@cfp-ca.org.

Love being a financial planner? We are in the
process of creating a new career recruitment brochure and
we would appreciate your feedback. What would you say to a
person who is interested in a career as a financial planner?
What do you find rewarding? How has the CFP designation furthered
your career? Anything you would say to a future planner, we
want to hear. Please send your written comments to rhilton@cfp-ca.org
and include your name and phone number. Your words of wisdom
will help FPSC recruit the next generation of CFP professionals.
We thank all planners for their contributions but we will
not be able to include all quotes in the brochure.

Making sure that a CFP professional is current
in maintaining all his/her licensing requirements, and that
everyone is using the CFP marks in an authorized and appropriate
way, is important to the entire CFP community and its supporters.
It's your reputation that's at stake. To help organizations
and practices that employ CFP professionals keep their staff
and representatives on track, we've developed a Guide to
CFP Licensing and Marks Use for distribution to anyone
who needs to be in-the-know about FPSC's licensing requirements
and resources. Do you know who that would be in your organization?
Branch manager? Compliance officer? Personnel Manager? Education
Department? If you do, let us know. Please forward the contact
information to lptak@cfp-ca.org.
Located on the FPSC website is a resource dedicated
to future CFP professionals. The "Candidates" hub outlines
the two paths to the CFP designation, the "approved educational"
or the "approved prior professional credentials" path. You
can also find our interactive "Career Centre," a discussion
forum, and much more. If you know anyone interested in pursuing
the designation, we encourage you to direct them to our site.
| Did
you know?.. FPSC's Approved Prior Credentials Policy
allows holders of certain degrees and/or approved credentials
and required experience to apply to write the CFP Examination
without completing additional educational courses. For
more information, visit our website. |
