FPSC begins a major Professional Competency Analysis this April. Ensuring the CFP certification process continues to lead the development of the financial planning profession in Canada, practicing CFP professionals across the country will help FPSC re-determine the knowledge, competencies and skills financial planners must have to best serve Canadians' current and future financial planning needs. FPSC is well represented on the new international body, Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd., (FPSB). This new organization overseeing the global development of CFP® certification was officially launched on January 1, 2003. Its formation is part of the ongoing efforts by CFP Board of Standards, Inc. (owner of the CFP Marks) and its 16 international affiliates to expand international recognition of the CFP certification program.
FPSC approved the financial planning education program offered by The Institute of Canadian Bankers (ICB) as a course of study that meets the educational requirements for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) certification. The ICB is one of four national education programs that have courses of study accredited by FPSC. If anyone you know would like more information about qualifying for the CFP Examination through the ICB's Personal Financial Planning program, tell them to visit www.icb.org or call the ICB at 1.800.361.7339.
FPSC is the only organization in Canada that licenses professionals who have met its standards to use CFP® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®. When you review your licence package, remember that membership in organizations like ADVOCIS or CIFPs does not preclude you from having to renew your CFP licence with FPSC annually. Membership in professional organizations is NOT a CFP licensing requirement. Review our Licensing Policies for complete details. The deadline for licence renewal is March 31.
