FPSC ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER 2003 CFP EXAMINATION RESULTS

Toronto, January 5, 2004 — One thousand two hundred and twenty (1,220) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council's (FPSC) Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) Examination on November 22, 2003 and 53.36 per cent of all candidates (651) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 62.53 per cent passed.

A list of the 651 successful CFP Examination candidates will be published in The Globe and Mail on Thursday, January 8.

"Congratulations to all the successful candidates who passed the rigorous CFP Examination. By successfully completing the examination, these candidates are one step closer to the internationally recognized mark of the professional financial planner - the CFP," said Cary List, FPSC Vice President, Standards & Certification.

The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The November examination was held in 59 centres across Canada. Topics covered reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning as established by CFP professionals and academics from across the country.

Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination. There are 27 programs directly accredited by FPSC that are delivered by 22 institutions across the country (including colleges and universities). Additional educational institutions have entered into academic partnerships bringing the number of institutions that offer courses of study leading to the CFP designation to over 70.

The next CFP Examination is scheduled for Saturday, June 5, 2004. Registration closes on May 5, 2004. Examination information is available at www.cfp-ca.org and the application form for the June exam will be available on the website at the end of January.

Financial Planners Standards Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to benefiting Canadians and the financial planning profession by developing, enforcing and promoting the highest standards of education, examination, experience and ethics in financial planning as defined by individuals who have earned the CFP designation. Currently, almost 16,000 planners are licensed to use the CFP marks in Canada, and there are approximately 80,000 CFP professionals in 17 countries around the world.
