FPSC Announces June 2002 CFP Examination Results

July 23, 2002, Toronto – One thousand four hundred and eighty-nine (1,489) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council's (FPSC) Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) Examination on June 8th and 55.47 per cent (826) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 62.46 per cent passed.

The list of the 826 successful CFP candidates will be published in the Thursday, September 5th edition of National Post and in the September issue of Investment Executive.

"The CFP examination is a rigorous measure of the candidates' professional competence, testing their judgement and analytical skills as well as their knowledge," said FPSC President Don Johnston. "I congratulate the successful candidates for taking this critical step towards earning the right to use the CFP designation, the recognized mark of the financial planning professional."

The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year in more than 60 centres across Canada. Topics covered reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning as established by academics and CFP professionals. Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination.

The next scheduled CFP Examination is on Saturday, November 9, 2002. Registration closes October 9, 2002. Examination information and applications are available at www.cfp-ca.org.

Financial Planners Standards Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to benefiting and protecting the Canadian consumer by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for financial planners who choose to earn the CFP designation. There are currently more than 14,000 planners licensed to use the CFP marks in Canada, and approximately 70,000 CFP professionals in 17 countries around the world.
