FPSC ANNOUNCES JUNE 2007 CFP EXAMINATION RESULTS

Toronto, July 9, 2007 — Nine hundred and eighty five (985) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) Examination on June 9, 2007 and 40.3 per cent (397) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 46.3 per cent passed.

The list of the 397 successful CFP candidates will be published in The Globe and Mail on September 6.

"The individuals who pass the CFP Examination have proven they have the knowledge and skills required to serve the best interests of their clients," says FPSC President and CEO Cary List. "FPSC's standards of competency for CFP professionals remain high, as what's at stake is the financial welfare and trust of an increasing number of Canadians seeking their help."

The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The June examination was held in 57 centres across Canada. Topics covered reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning.

Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination. There are 32 programs directly accredited by FPSC that are delivered by 25 institutions (including colleges and universities). However, some program providers have entered into academic partnerships bringing the number of institutions that offer courses of study leading to CFP certification to over 70. Visit the FPSC website for the most up-to-date list of Education Providers. Individuals who hold one of the following credentials and have three years of relevant industry experience are also eligible to write the CFP Examination through FPSC's Approved Prior Credentials Policy:

  • Professional actuaries (FCIAs)
  • Professional accountants (CA, CGA, CMA)
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
  • Members of provincial law societies
  • PhD in finance, business or economics

The next scheduled CFP Examination is on Saturday, November 17, 2007. Registration closes on October 17, 2007. Examination information and applications are available at www.cfp-ca.org.
