FPSC ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER 2007 CFP® EXAMINATION RESULTS
Toronto, January 14, 2008— Eight hundred and fifteen (815) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) Certified Financial Planner® or CFP® Examination on November 17, 2007, and 45 per cent (365) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 52 per cent passed.
The list of the 365 successful CFP candidates will be published in The Globe and Mail on January 17, 2008.
“Congratulations to the successful exam writers who have completed this very important step in attaining CFP certification,” says FPSC Vice President, Standards and Certification, John Wickett. “This was the first examination blueprinted to FPSC’s newly revised Professional Competency Profile for CFP Professionals. FPSC's standards of competency and ethics for CFP professionals are rigorously set and enforced to ensure Canadians have access to qualified financial planners.”
The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The November examination was held in 51 centres across Canada.
The examination is one component of the CFP certification program that also includes pre-requisite education to qualify to write the CFP examination, a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, ongoing adherence to the CFP Code of Ethics and fulfillment of annual requirements in continuing education.
Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination. There are currently 35 approved education programs offered by industry educators, colleges, and universities across Canada. Visit the FPSC website for the most up-to-date list of Education Providers.
Individuals who hold one of the following credentials and have three years of relevant industry experience are also eligible to write the CFP Examination through FPSC's Approved Prior Credentials Policy:
Certified General Accountant (CGA)
Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
Chartered Accountant (CA)
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)
Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA)
Lawyer
PhD in finance, business or economics
